Medford, Massachusetts
Settled in 1630 as part of Charlestown, it was originally called Mistick when Thomas Dudley misspelled Mystic after the Mystic River. The first bridge across the Mystic River was built in 1637, making the road a busy thoroughfare to Boston. The name was changed to Medford when it was incorporated from Charlestown in 1754. In 1892 it was incorporated as a city.
